BMW Canada recently announced the arrival of the long-awaited BMW i5, a new 100% electric sedan based on the popular 5 Series. This new model will complete the BMW's lineup of electric cars, which includes the i4, i4 M and i7 sedans, as well as the iX and iX M SUVs. To learn more about the BMW i5, its price, specifications and release date, check out this article, which we will update when more info is announced. You can also contact a BMW advisor at our Montreal dealership who will be happy to answer all your questions.

What can we expect from the BMW i5?

The very first BMW i5 is expected to remain faithful to the 5 Series in terms of design. We can therefore expect an equally elegant and sporty profile thanks to its long wheelbase. Indeed, what we particularly like about the i5 is that it's a happy medium between the compact side of the i4 and the elongated side of the i7. It should therefore come with vertically oriented grills, the typical BMW i signature, which nevertheless hide ultramodern sensors delivering real-time information. Inside, not to mention the ultra-comfortable seats and legroom in both the front and rear, you can expect a driver's seat that is specially designed for an outstanding driving experience. Not only are we sure that the same large 12.3" curved screen combined with the 14.9" Control Display found in the BMW i4 will be there, but all the on-board and driver assistance technologies will also be included.

Let's talk about performance!

In terms of performance, the 2023 5 Series is rated at up to 335 horsepower and the 5 Series M Competition can reach 617 horsepower. So, we can expect quite similar performance from the i5. It's not too far-fetched to think that it could exceed 600 horsepower. Moreover, for the thrill seekers, there are rumors that an i5 M could also be in the works.

What could be the price of the BMW i5 in Quebec?

The price of the BMW i5 should surely be around $70,000 for the base version, knowing that the 5 Series plug-in hybrid starts at $68,000 (MSRP). If an i5 M is added, it could reach $85,000 - $90,000. These estimates are based on the fact that the BMW i4’s price, like the 4 Series, starts at $55,240 (MSRP), the i4 M starts at $77,500 (MSRP), and the cost of the i7, like the 7 Series, is about $147,000 (MSRP). Of course this is all guesswork, we'll be sure to update prices as soon as we receive them.

For the moment, we have no official pictures, no price, and no release date. Nevertheless, our team at BMW West Island is really looking forward to try it on the roads of Montreal's West Island.
